IDEAS FOR WALKING AROUND UBC

All walks begin and end at the Scarfe Building.

20 to 30 minute walks:

Rose Garden Walk – Turn left and walk north along Main Mall to the Rose Garden. After walking through the gardens, walk through the Chan Center grounds and follow Crescent Road east to East Mall. Turn right (south) here, and walk past Brock Hall, through the SUB grounds, past the Bookstore to Applied Science Lane. Turn right and return to Scarfe via Fairview Square by crossing Main Mall.

Hospital Walk – Turn right and walk south along Main Mall to Thunderbird Blvd. Turn left and follow this road to Health Sciences Mall. Turn left and head north, passing by the UBC Hospital Grounds. Walk through the gardens and follow them to the University Blvd. Return to the Scarfe building by turning left and following the hill up to the intersection of Main Mall and University.

Memorial Walk – Leave the Scarfe Building and head west down the hill along University Blvd. Turn right at Lower Mall and follow it north to Nitobe Memorial Gardens. Turn right at Memorial Road and then left at West Mall to Crescent Road. Return to Main Mall and turn right, walking south back to Scarfe.

Anthropology Walk – Walk along Main Mall northward to the Museum of Anthropology and return along West Mall, or the reverse. Walk around the grounds and take a view of the ocean.

Longer Walks – 40 minutes to one hour:

East Walk – Follow the main roadways of the east side of UBC: Main Mall northward to Chancellor Blvd, south to Wesbrook Mall, west along Agronomy Road and right (north) along Main Mall back to Scarfe. Or reverse order.

West Walk – Head south along Main Mall to Thunderbird Stadium and follow Stadium Road to West Mall. Return to Scarfe either directly by turning right at University Blvd or continuing to Crescent Road and returning southward along Main Mall.

Osbourne Walk – Turn right from Scarfe and walk south along Main Mall to Thunderbird Blvd. and follow it to the Osbourne Sports Center and Thunderbird Park. Walk through this area and walk along the perimeter of the fields as far south as the Sports Medicine clinic if time permits, (fields can be soggy in wet weather)or circumnavigate the Tennis Center, or Hockey arena. Walk through the Osbourne Buildings (part of the Faculty of Education). Return to Scarfe the same way.

Botanical Walk – Walk to and through the Botanical gardens and back.

Chancellor Walk – Walk north along Main Mall and turn right at Crescent Road. Continue along this direction, through the area of Chancellor Walk which includes the School of Theology buildings. Return to Scarfe along East Mall and University Blvd.
