Tired of talking heads? Frustrated by back-to-back sessions that don’t give enough time for a bathroom break or collegial conversations?

Here’s a new experience!

Engage in “unsettling conversations” around SIX collaborative arts-based educational research presentations. Everyone together. Everyone participating. Poetry pilates during coffee breaks!

CONFERENCE GOALS:

  1. Introduce arts-based researchers and their work to each other to strengthen and encourage networking;

  2. Encourage our colleagues to engage in multidisciplinary collaborative arts-based inquiries that will initiate conversations around the practice, issues, tensions and challenges of arts-based research in educational research;

  3. Provide those who participate with an opportunity to question and share the issues, concerns, and experiences that emerge during the process and documentation of arts-based research;

  4. Begin a conversation around the role of arts-based inquiry in educational research, create a shared language of experience and hope, and bring our project of “unsettling conversations” forward through a collection of writing following our engagement together.

RSVP: If you know you will be coming, please RSVP Lynn Fels at lynn.fels@ubc.ca so we add your name to our participants list.

For those of you wishing to register for the event, please check the website regularly for information. We will need to have your registration completed by the end of May 2006.

We look forward to welcoming your participation in this unique opportunity to share our work, ideas, concerns, issues, challenges, hopes and ambitions for arts-based inquiry in education in Canada (and elsewhere!) Six presentation proposals will be chosen to be shared to stimulate conversation; the dialogue generated around these presentations will be the focus of our two day gathering. In “Unsettling Conversations” everyone will be acknowledged as a co-presenter/participant—without your participation, this pivotal conversation will not happen! Anticipating your response!

Sincerely,

Planning Committee: George Belliveau, Lynn Fels, Peter Gousouasis, Kit Grauer, Rita Irwin, Carl Leggo, Carmen Medina, Gus Weltsek
